I get asked the same questions over and over again. Even though I often explain the answers in great deal in my videos. I figured out what the problem might be. I talk too much. So I summarized the most common questions I get and phrased them all so they have the same answer.
“No.”
Thanks.
Steve

But what if it’s RICO

No.

Suave

This kind of oversimplification is really no more useful than advice from non-lawyers.
And the answer to Can you sue? is always a resounding yes. The answer to Should you sue? might not be.

You beat me to it.

Or, “Can I successfully sue . . .”

I feel like buying a car sight unseen is not always a no. Perhaps buying a primary car, but one where you know there is work involved and maybe it’s a slightly rare car, or something you really want, and are accepting the risk? This can be a yes!

Or the question most people should be asking, “Am I likely to find a lawyer who will take this case on pure contingency?”
About 99% of “I’ll sue you!!!” threats vanish once people realize that shockingly enough, lawyers charge for their services.

What if they ship you the wrong car? What if they lied in their description? Just because something CAN work out does not mean it is advisable.

Oh, that too. I have people who get upset when I tell them I need to charge them to go to court and defend them on traffic offenses. If you don’t pay me, who will?

Well, fine, go ahead and make sense, Steve. Jeez...

Whenever anyone complained about my hourly rate, I’d send them one of the articles talking about how hourly rates had crossed the $1000/hour, then $1500, and now even the $2000 threshold . Made by rate look downright reasonable by comparison.

Probably the same people who expect a traffic hearing to be full of Perry Mason theatrics.

There’s been a bifurcation or a winner-take-all thing. I’m sure you’ve heard the stories of people with unremarkable law degrees delivering pizzas. T here are outsourcing shops in India, with people who have supposedly passed US-equivalent bar exams, charging $50/hour for contract drafting. All the work I’ve ever seen coming from them is really, really, really bad (my favorite is how they all seem to think “consideration” means “thinking things over”) , but my sample is limited. I don’t doubt that it’s possible for someone in India to be an excellent research attorney for the US legal system , but maybe such a person wouldn’t be working for an outsourcing sweatshop.

I believe Johnnie Cochran was charging $1500/hour even back in the 1990s. Respect.

The only “no” I question is “Should I pay the speeding ticket.” I’d like to see your related video.
For other readers, here’s “All Hail the Ford Explorer,
” an entertaining
rant.

Hi Steve - Did you have to give away a book to a ‘lucky’ Daewoo owner after the All Hail video?
![]() 08/29/2018 at 08:18 |

No. People have sent me pics of Daewoos but no one has sent me a current registration.

I did a recent podcast on this. I worked in radio for a few years.
